Verdict

Surfshark is the best-value VPN for households and multi-device crypto users in 2026 — if the Netherlands doesn't scare you. The pitch is almost absurdly generous: one subscription covers an unlimited number of devices, the two-year Starter term costs $67.23 for 27 months ($2.49/month), and checkout accepts more cryptocurrencies than any rival in our comparison. The no-logs policy has now been audited by Deloitte twice (2023 and 2025). The caveat is structural, not financial: Surfshark is a Dutch company, and the Netherlands sits in the Nine Eyes intelligence-sharing alliance. For everyday privacy — exchanges, trackers, public Wi-Fi — that's an acceptable trade. If your threat model includes state-level requests, buy Proton VPN or NordVPN instead.

Plans and pricing: three tiers, one VPN

Like NordVPN, Surfshark sells one VPN at three bundle levels — the VPN itself (servers, protocols, no-logs policy, kill switch) is identical on every tier. Higher tiers add separate products, so buy them only if you'd buy those products anyway.

Tier Monthly 2-year (per mo) Renews at Adds over Starter
Starter $16.45 $2.49 ($67.23 for 27 mo) $79/year —
One $18.95 $2.79 ($75.33 for 27 mo) $99/year Antivirus, breach alerts, private search
One+ $21.85 $4.49 ($121.23 for 27 mo) $119/year One + Incogni data-broker removal, identity-theft coverage

(US introductory pricing checked October 2026. The "2-year" term actually bills 27 months — Surfshark adds three bonus months. One-year plans exist at $3.39–$7.49/month. A two-year plan renews on annual terms only; you can't re-buy the 2-year rate.)

The renewal math deserves the same honesty we gave NordVPN. Starter renews at $79/year — about $6.60/month, 2.6× the first term. That's a gentler sting than NordVPN's 3× jump, but it still pays to set a reminder before month 27. Note also that Surfshark's terms allow it to test different renewal prices, so check your account page before the first term ends — don't rely on the figure above as a promise.

Two practical notes: the monthly plan ($16.45) is priced as a punishment for short-term commitment — only use it as a trial. And the Black Friday window (through early December 2026) typically adds a bonus month or two on the two-year term; check our Deals page for the current offer before you buy.

Privacy and audits: credible, with the Dutch asterisk

This is the section where Surfshark earns its keep and where you decide whether the Netherlands matters to you.

The evidence side: the no-logs policy has now been through Deloitte twice — first in 2023, re-verified in 2025 — and the server fleet is RAM-only, so nothing persists on disk to be seized. The infrastructure is genuinely modern: a Nexus network design, WireGuard with post-quantum encryption added in early 2026, Dynamic MultiHop (build your own two-hop routes instead of picking from a fixed list), Rotating IP, and CleanWeb ad/tracker blocking. Independent testers consistently rate the speeds as competitive with anything in this price class.

The jurisdiction side: Surfshark is incorporated in the Netherlands, a Nine Eyes member. The Netherlands has no mandatory VPN data-retention law, and the no-logs audits are the whole point — there's nothing retained to hand over. But if you want legal geography on your side as well as cryptography, this is the one thing no feature list can fix. Our comparison guide's framing stands: exchanges, trackers and public Wi-Fi as your adversary → Surfshark is the rational buy; state-level requests as your adversary → pay more and pick Swiss or Panamanian jurisdiction.

The crypto angle: the widest checkout in its class

For crypto users, Surfshark's payment list is the best in our comparison: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Tron, USDT, Litecoin, XRP, Dogecoin and even Monero, through CoinGate and CoinPayments. You can hold the subscription without adding another card record anywhere. Combined with Alternative ID (built into every plan — generates a fake identity and email for signups) and Bypasser split-tunneling, it's the most "crypto-native" checkout experience of the five VPNs we've compared.

Bottom line

Surfshark is what a budget VPN should be: audited, feature-dense, and honest about what it's not. The Netherlands is the one thing it can't change, and the review is worthless if it buries that. For everyone else — households, travelers, crypto users who pay in coin — this is the value pick in our 2026 VPN comparison.

How we evaluate

HoardAds has not yet completed its own hands-on Surfshark test cycle, and this review doesn't claim otherwise: it is built from Surfshark's published specifications and pricing (October 2026), the public audit record, and the hands-on testing of established review outlets (sources below). When our own testing lands, this page will be updated and dated. If the evidence changes, the verdict changes — that's the deal.
